The Interweb

Melbournians are well connected. But they also appreciate that the interweb is USELESS if you aren't comfortable while you are web 2.0-ing.

Noise band

Melbourne people love bands and they love noise and they love bands that only play noise.

Alternative independent indie country musical band concert

Folks in Sydney sure like to dress real nice for special occasions, like for when the boys from My Morning Jacket come to town. Even boys like to dress real pretty sometimes.

Dead Goon Bag

Virgilzgurl, a new contributer to this blog, took this wonderful shot in Willoughby. Formerly mundane dormitory suburb given life by diasporic Armenians, now gently gentrifying into decline. She tells me that she suspects that this "dead goon bag was thrown from the window of a Lexus by a north shore house wife on the wrong side of a Xanex/Chardonnay bender possibly on her way to pick up the kids from school".

Whatever the explanation, it seems quite sad. And poignant.

There's still at least half a litre in there.

Lapidary club

Sydney is the kind of town where a lapidarist need not lap alone, but can travel to places where other lapidarists congregate such as this club in Bankstown, to mingle and lap together in the company of like minded folk.

Head on a stick

There is a store, in central Sydney, that sells a range of razors and hairdryers and other sundry items and machines for personal grooming and maintenance.

Just inside this store is a head on a stick.

It is unclear whether this head is to dissuade potential thieves or whether its demonstrating a product designed specifically for people without bodies.

Subprime collapse - financial crisis

The worldwide financial crisis stemming from the US subprime collapse is making itself felt in the city's financial district. The sudden unavailability of easy credit combined with the dramatic fall in the value of the Australian dollar has taken many casualties amongst the financial classes.

The fallen are so numerous that we don't have time or resources to bury them. This one has simply been left in Hyde Park to await the scavenging Ibises.

Funeral Pizza

Following on from the converted Pizza Hut building theme from a previous post, is example of a very innovative re-use in Revesby.

I wonder if the salad bar is still available for wakes and such.

Goodbye Winter - Hello Spring

Despite being windy, rainy and colder than ever right now, it really is Spring. At least officially. Perhaps a good opportunity to note the winter that has just passed by remembering a foggy night in Padstow.
